Biographical sketch

A native of Maryland, Dr. David Butler earned a Ph.D. in Agronomy with a focus in Soil Science from the University of Georgia in 2008 and a M.S. in Crop Science from North Carolina State University in 2004. After a brief period of time as a USDA researcher in Florida, Dr. Butler joined the faculty at the University of Tennessee in 2010 where he focuses on teaching and research in organic and sustainable cropping systems. His research interests include integration of cover crops into production systems, soil nutrient cycling and soil quality in organic cropping systems, reduced-tillage organic production systems, and non-chemical alternatives to soil fumigation.
